Jordan rewards travelers who balance its headline landmarks with enough time to enjoy each place. In one week, you can experience Roman cities, the shores of the Dead Sea, Petra’s rock-cut monuments and a desert night in Wadi Rum without turning every day into a race.
Days 1–2: Amman and northern Jordan
Begin in Amman with the Citadel, Roman Theatre, downtown markets and an evening meal in one of the capital’s lively neighborhoods. Use the second day for Jerash, adding Ajloun or Umm Qais when your pace and daylight allow.
Day 3: Madaba and the Dead Sea
Travel south through Madaba and Mount Nebo before descending to the Dead Sea. This makes a gentler transition between northern Jordan and the longer road toward Petra.
Days 4–5: Give Petra proper time
An early start lets you walk through the Siq before the busiest period. One full day covers the main trail, while a second morning creates room for the Monastery, Royal Tombs or a slower return to favorite viewpoints.
Days 6–7: Wadi Rum and departure
Continue to Wadi Rum for a locally guided desert excursion, sunset and an overnight camp. The final route can return toward Amman or continue to Aqaba, depending on your flight and preferred departure point.
Planning tip: Treat arrival and departure days as partial days. Keeping one flexible block in the itinerary makes transfers, meals and check-ins far more comfortable.
